2008-10-30 14:42:44 [Message] alex.ragone -> -EdTechTalk: @momcginn: http://k12onlineconference.org/?p=344
2008-10-30 14:44:34 [Message] alex.ragone -> -EdTechTalk: Questions for Tom?
2008-10-30 14:45:02 [Message] matt montagne -> -EdTechTalk: from a learner's standpoint, consistency helps...
2008-10-30 14:45:06 [Message] Michelle Baldwin -> -EdTechTalk: our district policy only allows STUDENTS to use Gaggle, because it's "safe"
2008-10-30 14:45:29 [Message] matt montagne -> -EdTechTalk: we're trying to all use wikispaces, just to simplify things...if everyone is using their own wiki tools, for example, it gets a bit chaotic
2008-10-30 14:45:29 [Message] alex.ragone -> -EdTechTalk: @michelle -- sorry about that.
2008-10-30 14:45:55 [Message] alex.ragone -> -EdTechTalk: We're trying to hold the line on Moodle and our SIS to keep usernames down to a minimum.
2008-10-30 14:45:58 [Message] arvind -> -EdTechTalk: consistency is an interesting concept in schools where often each teacher has their own grading model, their own style of worksheets, tests, handouts, notes, etc. is there real consistency just because the school uses Moodle, WetPaint, etc?
2008-10-30 14:46:04 [Message] matt montagne -> -EdTechTalk: we have a fair amount of info anarchy going on...some teachers using Firstclass conferences, some legacy websites, wiki whativer, moodle, blogs, ridicoulous
2008-10-30 14:46:14 [Message] alex.ragone -> -EdTechTalk: But our PLP cohort is getting all types of accounts.  So I feel like I'm going in two directions.
2008-10-30 14:46:19 [Message] matt montagne -> -EdTechTalk: I'm not saying we all need to b doing the same thing, but we do need to standardize a bit
2008-10-30 14:46:24 [Message] arvind -> -EdTechTalk: usernames is a pain, we try to go with things that support LDAP integration, but that right there is a huge limiting factor which ideally, wouldn't be there
2008-10-30 14:46:32 [Message] ehelfant -> -EdTechTalk: and we're using everything - going with transference of skills ..and if you get involved with external collaborations, you have to sacrifice standardization
2008-10-30 14:46:52 [Message] arvind -> -EdTechTalk: definitely
2008-10-30 14:47:00 [Message] arvind -> -EdTechTalk: definitely to ehelfant
2008-10-30 14:47:00 [Message] Michelle Baldwin -> -EdTechTalk: @arvind we're trying to move away from LDAP and go to Active Directory for that same reason
2008-10-30 14:47:16 [Message] ehelfant -> -EdTechTalk: we've tried to standardize workflows - this is how you submit work electronically, this is where you get homeowrk
2008-10-30 14:48:08 [Message] arvind -> -EdTechTalk: we use active directory, but plug into it via ldap @michelle baldwin
2008-10-30 14:48:50 [Message] ehelfant -> -EdTechTalk: When we set up accounts for kids on external sites we use a google form and have them submit their username and the email they registered under
2008-10-30 14:48:52 [Message] Michelle Baldwin -> -EdTechTalk: @arvind working with three platforms on server-- they're trying to get all of it to work.
2008-10-30 14:49:18 [Message] arvind -> -EdTechTalk: elizabeth, great idea!
2008-10-30 14:49:31 [Message] alex.ragone -> -EdTechTalk: We've got our AD, SIS and Moodle all working nicely through LDAP.
2008-10-30 14:49:57 [Message] ehelfant -> -EdTechTalk: we have mediawiki and wordpress mu going through ldap
2008-10-30 14:49:59 [Message] Michelle Baldwin -> -EdTechTalk: how many of your districts restrict student use of external sites, like Blogger, Wikispaces?
2008-10-30 14:50:01 [Message] arvind -> -EdTechTalk: same here Alex
2008-10-30 14:50:14 [Message] ehelfant -> -EdTechTalk: looking at moodle and mahara integration
2008-10-30 14:50:20 [Message] arvind -> -EdTechTalk: we use wikispaces a bit, but use self-hosted Wordpress MU (moved away from blogger)
2008-10-30 14:50:36 [Message] alex.ragone -> -EdTechTalk: Many school districts do, Michelle.  arvind, Vinnie and I all work in Independnent Schools so we have some more flexibility.
2008-10-30 14:50:45 [Message] arvind -> -EdTechTalk: but now Google Docs is snowballing out of control! trying to work on single sign-on with Google Apps. now that's a pain
2008-10-30 14:51:08 [Message] Michelle Baldwin -> -EdTechTalk: @Alex it's really frustrating... not sure how to help them move past that policy
2008-10-30 14:51:53 [Message] ehelfant -> -EdTechTalk: Laura Deisly is trying a DebateAsia wiki collaboration that could be cool.. its in its infancy
2008-10-30 14:52:22 [Message] alex.ragone -> -EdTechTalk: @Michelle -- Oh, yeah.  I can't imagine being stuck behind such a firewall all day
2008-10-30 14:52:22 [Message] arvind -> -EdTechTalk: @Michelle definitely a tough one. Connecting to people at other districts who've had success might help your district trust in their experiences
2008-10-30 14:52:25 [Message] VinnieVrotny -> -EdTechTalk: @ehelfant that would be really cool. THanks for sharing.
2008-10-30 14:53:12 [Message] momcginn -> -EdTechTalk: got a link for that last English class comment?
2008-10-30 14:53:22 [Message] arvind -> -EdTechTalk: http://edtechteacher.org
2008-10-30 14:53:25 [Message] matt montagne -> -EdTechTalk: @alex...our school bradned GDocs network is going nuts as well
2008-10-30 14:53:34 [Message] alex.ragone -> -EdTechTalk: http://www.besthistorysites.net/

2008-10-30 14:53:56 [Message] VinnieVrotny -> -EdTechTalk: We are movign to Google Apps over Thanksgiving. Pushed off from the summer
