JohnSchinker  Arvind: where are you? I misssed that when you jumped in.
 arvind grover  new york city
JohnSchinker  Oh. Yeah. Now I get it.
 JohnSchinker  I've heard your show
JohnSchinker  sorry. I didn't make the connection
arvind grover  no prob, glad to meet someone who listens. don't know how many of you there are :)
JohnSchinker  I can't say I always listen, but occasionally, you accompany me to work
JohnSchinker  You guys were talking about getting better access among your schools.
JohnSchinker  I considered myself fortunate. We have gigabit between schools, and 100MB to the Internet.
JohnSchinker  I thought in NYC you'd have tons of bandwidth
JohnSchinker  Of course, we have other problems, but that's thankfully not one of them.
JohnSchinker  It looks like you've had a couple recent shows on professional development -- I'll have to check them out. It's something I've been thinking a lot about lately.
arvind grover  wow, that is a big time connection. we are in the private school world though, you?
arvind grover  prof dev has been on our minds a lot, especially with the summer coming up (sort of)
 JohnSchinker  public schools
arvind grover  public schools usually powered by district level connections, we are individual schools buying connections
JohnSchinker  We got the fiber within the district for free from the cable tv company as part of their franchise agreement.
arvind grover  nyc public schools have big time connections
JohnSchinker  Then we just built the network.
 arvind grover  wow
arvind grover  manhattan has limited fiber
JohnSchinker  Right. Private schools would probably have a tougher time. Especially with long geography
JohnSchinker  I was in Manhatten for the first time last summer (very briefly)
JohnSchinker  We don't pay any connection fees for our internal network -- we just have to maintain the equipment.
JohnSchinker  I need to go. It was nice chatting with you.
