19:53:11 alicemercer -> - Didn't we have this discussion in re: arthus?
19:53:13 montagne#2 -> - they've been a total blast
19:53:15 alicemercer -> - Cause he is a minor
19:53:22 montagne#2 -> - I'm doing one the week after next as my 3rd interncast
19:53:28 montagne#2 -> - the kids are a total riot
19:53:35 JenW -> - it got very quiet
19:53:36 alicemercer -> - I'd like to chat about this since I teach elementary
19:54:06 chellouise -> - Did everybody leave you Jen?
19:54:10 murcha -> - Time zones are annoying if we want to join in with anything
19:54:10 mrsdurff -> - call in alice
19:54:15 montagne#2 -> - @chellouise...they are already thinking about their guest for our next show
19:54:40 tansmom -> - I would love to do this- maybe do a test run sometime before school is out
19:54:45 chellouise -> - @montagne SWEET! What topics have they been casting about?
19:54:52 montagne#2 -> - I did one student webcast about a month ago, and after that they all wanted to do this again...I was shocked
19:54:58 JenW -> - hmmmmm on all shows??
19:55:01 JenW -> - or just this show??
19:55:05 montagne#2 -> - they were all at home, they all installed skype, it was cool
19:55:11 dianerchen -> Room 4: http://regioniv.wikispaces.com/
19:55:40 chellouise -> - how neat and what a good way to get them engaged in the learning material
19:55:42 montagne#2 -> - Topics included: eeePC discussion, Vista OS, open source, browsers, iPhone hacks, etc
19:55:44 JohnS -> - We're just talking about this one show. They'd probably participate as part of a class.
19:55:48 murcha -> - How old were your students @montagne#2. Neat idea
19:55:50 JohnS -> - They're talking about doing it during the school day.
19:55:58 montagne#2 -> - @mucha...kids are 14
19:56:12 JenW -> - OKAY
19:56:19 montagne#2 -> - Here is the recording from my first show...
19:56:25 JenW -> - but how would you verify that the child did NOT sign the disclaimer/TOS
19:56:35 JenW -> - that the parent released it??
19:56:37 montagne#2 -> - unfortunately I was a knuckelehead and forgot to start the archving until 30 mins in
19:56:47 JenW -> - I think you would be getting into a bit of interesting territory
19:56:54 mrsdurff -> - :)
19:57:11 montagne#2 -> - http://www.webcastacademy.net/node/2036
19:57:15 JenW -> - we can ask Brent on Tuesday about what he does
19:57:24 JenW -> - he has 5th graders and they post to iTunes
19:57:26 chellouise -> - This is an interesting discussion. Does anyone think we Americans have too much fear about using these technologies?
19:57:32 dianerchen -> Room 4: http://regioniv.wikispaces.com/
19:57:33 tansmom -> - so when we popped into ustream and chatted with KJ and kids, it was not ok?
19:57:41 JL -> - YEEEEESSSSS
19:57:47 montagne#2 -> - http://www.webcastacademy.net/node/1987 oops...this is the one with the audio file
19:57:53 JenW -> - tans -- is the parent didn't think so -- there could be consequences
19:58:06 tansmom -> - yikes-
19:58:07 mrsdurff -> - i disagree
19:58:09 JenW -> - I would disagree Alice -- especially if the show is AFTER school hours
19:58:24 JenW -> - if we are taking 8 - 3 yes
19:58:27 JenW -> - but an evening show
19:58:33 JenW -> - yes
19:58:38 mrsdurff -> - go alice!
19:58:47 montagne#2 -> - but what is school now?? Does it only happen from 8-3??
19:58:52 JenW -> - lol -- i have been reprimanded :)
19:59:09 montagne#2 -> - For me the AUP is 24/7
19:59:11 JenW -> - does the aup cover 24??
19:59:18 JenW -> - really?? that would be excellent
19:59:19 tansmom -> - so aup should cover more..
19:59:29 JohnS -> - If they're participating on their own, not as part of a class, or under the direction of a student, then the aup doesn't apply.
19:59:29 murcha -> - Can any permission forms keep up with technology developments
19:59:34 mrsdurff -> - at our school EVERYONE signs an AUP
19:59:39 JohnS -> - But if a teacher tells them to do it, that's a hard case to make.
19:59:40 tansmom -> - mine too,
19:59:52 mrsdurff -> - on wards of the state can't
19:59:58 montagne#2 -> - I used to only think we were responsible 8-3...but my thinking changed about 30 months ago...
20:00:01 JenW -> - if our AUP is 24/7 -- then tons of kids are breaking it -- at my school :)
20:00:06 mrsdurff -> - and their voices CAN
20:00:15 montagne#2 -> - don't get me wroing, I am a little nervous about some of the things I do
20:00:16 JenW -> - and our AUP is way too tight
20:00:32 tansmom -> - oh, ok, so if I just did voice- they asked questions..no video..that is ok durff?
20:00:37 JenW -> - Alice -- LOL -- ignore my text :) LOL
20:00:39 montagne#2 -> - but at the same time, we can't be afraid of every possible chance outcome
20:00:41 Nedra -> - If a student records an answer on Voicethread do I need a permission slip for that?
20:00:43 mrsdurff -> - at our school if you don't like the AUP you attend another school
20:00:50 JenW -> - you don't have an AUP to say my name :)
20:00:52 JohnS -> - It can't be. The school can't govern what kids do at home.
20:00:53 montagne#2 -> - @Nedra...agreed
20:01:02 tansmom -> - LOL @JW
20:01:08 dianerchen -> Room 4: http://regioniv.wikispaces.com/
20:01:23 mrsdurff -> - @Nedra depends
20:01:24 murcha -> - sorry bell has gone, I have to go Thanks for having me
20:01:26 chellouise -> - I really think we are too paranoid
20:01:33 JenW -> - I have no trouble with kids online -- but I don't want ETT to go down because a parent sues
20:01:43 montagne#2 -> - Also, the students who I ask to webcast do so under a totally volunteer basis...
20:01:54 mrsdurff -> - if it is my kid - they crawl away scared
20:02:09 montagne#2 -> - I don't think anyone is going to sue ETT
20:02:13 mrsdurff -> - what is the point?
20:02:14 montagne#2 -> - sorry, but I don't
20:02:20 montagne#2 -> - they could sue me...
20:02:26 mrsdurff -> - i agree with matt
20:02:36 montagne#2 -> - I'm not worth much!!:)
20:02:39 JenW -> - :)
20:02:42 JenW -> - neither am I
20:02:42 montagne#2 -> - :)
20:03:15 JenW -> - question though -- if it is password protected -- which you said -- but then you said you could open it later -- what would have changed??
20:03:40 mrsdurff -> - let's do the walled garden and then podcast
20:03:42 JenW -> - if Lisa does it -- everyone will want to do it
20:03:48 tansmom -> - scary to be on the bleeding edge sometimes lol
20:03:54 mrsdurff -> - no he won't
20:04:00 alicemercer -> - I've had my say
20:04:01 montagne#2 -> - My next interncast is the week of May 12th...it will be with students again
20:04:08 JohnS -> - JenW -- avoid accidental release of personally identifyable or inappropriate information.
20:04:09 mrsdurff -> - he wants me to webcast
20:04:11 montagne#2 -> - join in...the kids have been a blast!!
20:04:14 mrsdurff -> - with kids
20:04:28 alicemercer -> - NIGHT all
20:04:30 mrsdurff -> - parents want it
20:04:34 JenW -> - at JohnS -- with my school right now -- NOTHING is available
20:04:38 chellouise -> - g'night alice!
20:04:39 JenW -> - so I don't have to worry
20:04:49 JenW -> - thanks for a good show
20:04:50 mrsdurff -> - i just need a download or two at school
20:04:50 dianerchen -> Room 4: http://regioniv.wikispaces.com/
20:04:50 montagne#2 -> - chow y'all
20:05:04 tansmom -> - thanks:)
20:05:12 jamie -> - thanks everyone!
20:05:12 tansmom -> - good convo
20:05:23 mrsdurff -> - so it is like a Skype call if within a walled garden
20:05:24 tansmom -> - glad to be out of the penalty box
20:05:27 chellouise -> - really good conversation, thanks!
20:05:27 tansmom -> - lol
20:05:28 Nedra -> - Thanks, good show\
20:05:30 JenW -> - me too tans
20:05:35 mrsdurff -> - 8th graders have webcasted
20:05:35 JenW -> - you stayed there MUCH too long
20:05:43 tansmom -> - have to get on the treadmill
20:05:44 tansmom -> - lol
20:05:47 mrsdurff -> - no problem with parents
20:05:48 tansmom -> - bye all
20:05:51 dianerchen -> Room 4: http://regioniv.wikispaces.com/
20:05:54 JenW -> - it is based on age -- so it should have been 1 minute per year
20:05:57 JenW -> - :)
20:05:57 mrsdurff -> - now i have two more kids
20:06:15 JenW -> - night Durff
20:06:17 mrsdurff -> - okay it is coffee and dessert time
20:06:18 JenW -> - and everyone else
20:06:21 mrsdurff -> - night dear
20:06:35 chellouise -> - @mrsdurff Is chocolate included?

I wanted to stand up and applaud EdTechWeekly's achievement in doing a show every week (or so) 75 times. I've been a loyal listener (lurker) for over a year so I feel like I know all the hosts. I submit links on del.icio.us too but I enjoy the ones you highlight and the diversity of your perspectives. I seem to miss joining in live on Sundays, but I always feel invited and welcome through the download. Thank you for the show! -- Webwriter (Clay)
