Alexander Hayes is completing a PhD on wearable technologies.  He feels, in his words, that ”we are on the cusp of a substantial shift in how we consider wearable technologies likely in the next 6 – 24 months … there has been a discernible shift in the “heat” generated from major consortiums now bringing to market technologies that are pervasively poised to radically re-organise what is said, done, remembered and perhaps more importantly re-wired for other parties purposes.

“Google Glass provides us all with a reason to question what it will mean to be interacting with our peers, family and loved ones through the fashion filter of a networked and location aware device. Body worn technologies such as Memoto and Autographer also join the list of data logging devices that we use to monitor and transmit data from our daily activities, either for health awareness, entertainment or myriad of other reasons.”

In this session, members of Webheads in Action, TALO, Worldbridges, and affiliated online communities and thought leaders will discuss the benefits, risks and perhaps harm that may arise with the rollout of second generation intelligent (smart) wearable technologies in our society.

Recently Diana was featured on TED.com for the “How to Learn? From Mistakes” talk and recognized for earning National Board Certification. Her publications include a featured piece on the New York Times Learning blog, co-authoring a chapter in an educational leadership book, an upcoming article in the Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy and regular contributions to teachinghistory.org.

José Luis Vilson is a math educator for a middle school in the Inwood / Washington Heights neighborhood of New York, NY. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Syracuse University and a master’s degree in mathematics education from the City College of New York. He’s also a committed writer, activist, web designer, and father. He co-authored the book Teaching 2030: What We Must Do For Our Students and Public Schools … Now and In The Future with Dr. Barnett Berry and 11 other accomplished teachers. He currently serves as the president emeritus of the Latino Alumni Network of Syracuse University, as a board member on the Board of Directors for the Center for Teaching Quality, and has been a part of the Acentos Foundation, LATinos In Social Media (LATISM), the Capicu Poetry Group, BlogCritics, and the AfroSpear.He writes for Edutopia, GOOD, and TransformED / Future of Teaching, and has written for CNN.com, Education Week, Huffington Post, and El Diario / La Prensa NY. He works on literacy, whole-school development, and teacher leadership. Formerly he directed the Center for City Schools at National-Louis University.

Patrick Delaney is a recently retired librarian from Galileo Academy of Science and Technology in San Francisco. He has been a Bay Area Writing Project (CA) teacher-consultant for decades, and has been a leader in technology work in the National Writing Project. BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Birmingham poets age 13-20 have a chance to participate in Brave New Voices 2013, a festival that will be held in Chicago in August. BNV is a network of more than 70 organizations that hosts a HBO series that "captures teenager picking up the pen and taking hold of the microphone with passion, intelligence, creativity, honesty and power," according to the BNV web site.

Holly Groder and Kaye Rabel joined Jennifer Maddrell this week on the Designers for Learning webcast at EdTechTalk.com. Holly and Kaye are graduate students in the Instructional Design and Technology program at Old Dominion University. Both recently completed pro bono projects with clients in a Consulting Skills for Instructional Designers course. They discussed their experiences working with real clients in authentic applied learning projects conducted outside the safe haven of the classroom. Based on their experiences, as well as their perspectives as instructional designers, they contemplated how similar service-learning projects could support students in online or blended courses.

This is a planning-in-public episode on Teachers Teaching Teachers, which we held less than a week before we launched into the three-week Youth Voices program this July, which was the New York City Writing Project's participation in the Summer of Making and Connecting and part of the National Writing Project's Educator Innovator.

The week before this episode of TTT, with my colleagues in the New York City Writing Project, Grace Raffaele, Jim Nordlinger, Noah Gordon, and Aliyah Hayes, we had been individually meeting 13 high school students were joined by five teachers for a three-week summer program focused on http://youthvoices.net/grid and http://youthvoices.net/play

What an exciting group of youths we were lucky enough to gather for this program! And thank you to all of our supporters who contributed to make this possible!

On this episode of TTT, Jim Nordlinger our video production lead and Karen Fasimpaur (who joined us in the third week) and I continue an ongoning conversations we've been having about the story we want to tell with a video that Jim has been shooting about the deep learning students and teachers do together on Youth Voices. Even as I type these notes for the podcast (from my one-week vacation in mid-August) Jim is working to finish editing the many, many hours of video that he captured during our work together in July. Reviewing this episode of TTT and seeing your comments should at least inspire Jim, and might also suggest an angle that he had forgotten.

From the intake interviews in the last week of June (and even before in a teacher's classroom) to the final exhibition on July 25th Jim has been pointing his camera at our interactions. On this episode of TTT we be talk about what story we want to tell with this video project.

Please take the time to listen to this podcast, then we would love for you to add any insights you might have about what audience we should be aiming to connect with (the average civilian?) and what message we want to convey about the way teachers and students can work together in an online learning space built on National Writing Project values and beliefs.
