21:05:01 PeggyG : That was a booming sound :-) all better now :-)
21:05:45 dougsymington : hi all skype me to say "boo"
21:07:06 Cathy E : Hello Lee, so glad to hear you are feeling better
21:07:30 dougsymington : yes, godspeed Lee

21:08:26 PeggyG : Just finished filling in the NECC evaluation--took more than a "brief moment" :-)
21:08:57 mrsdurff : enjoying popcorn
21:09:42 mrsdurff : missing sharon & konrad who are in cape town
21:09:44 PeggyG : After 5 days of Mexican food and other great stuff, I'm back to salad!! Depressing!
21:09:58 mrsdurff : tis good for you
21:10:21 PeggyG : What's depressing is the 5 pounds I gained at NECC! I love salad!
21:11:23 mrsdurff : hi cathy!
21:11:48 mrsdurff : recordings of keynote should be online
21:12:05 PeggyG : Cahty, tell us what you've been busy doing :-)
21:12:09 mrsdurff : moving again?
21:13:20 PeggyG : Looking forward to getting more info on Webcast Academy. I'm signed up and ready to go.
21:13:41 mrsdurff : Mirielle wants to know the dates of webcastacademy class of 3.x
21:14:46 PeggyG : Cathy, you have some XOs in your classroom, right?
21:15:45 PeggyG : I've spent some time exploring the screencasts on the site.
21:16:23 dougsymington : http://webcastacademy.net/streaming-overview
21:16:32 mrsdurff : the moodle http://edtechtalk.com/live
21:16:40 mrsdurff : oops
21:16:59 Lorna : Beta 4 for Mac grr - all MAcers revolt
21:17:17 PeggyG : I re-listened to the Drupal podcast on my flight home. Really helpful
21:17:53 PeggyG : Is there an actual start date for 3.0?
21:18:06 mrsdurff : it won't highlight
21:18:30 Lorna : doesn't exist
21:18:30 mrsdurff : i'm munching popcorn
21:18:41 mrsdurff : difficult to turn off munching
21:18:52 dougsymington : http://webcastacademy.com/
21:19:50 PeggyG : I hope your new principal is supportive of all of your technology uses :-)
21:20:20 PeggyG : I'd love to have the Moodle URL for Scratch too. Haven't seen it.
21:21:28 PeggyG : There are times when I get DM in email before it comes through Twitter. Strange.
21:21:59 mrsdurff : I don't get what Cathy is saying
21:22:42 PeggyG : How are you tracking your Twitter messages, Cathy? Browser or Twhirl?
21:23:11 mrsdurff : is this? http://www.meridianmoodle.com/course/view.php?id=35
21:23:33 PeggyG : Now I get it. Never though of using Skype for Twitter. I use Twhirl and it usually works pretty well.
21:24:04 mrsdurff : i can't5 get twitter4skype to work either
21:24:14 PeggyG : I can't type today! Sorry for the typos!
21:25:02 PeggyG : Thanks Lisa. That looks like a great Scratch resource.
21:25:41 SROSEMAN : I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT THE HIGHLIGHTS OF NECC
21:25:49 SROSEMAN : please
21:26:34 JoseRodriguez : Hey All
21:26:44 PeggyG : The WOW2 webcast on Tuesday night captures quite a few highlights of NECC from people. I videotaped it and will get it uploaded soon. It was a definite highlight for me!
21:27:07 SROSEMAN : Thanks Peggy
21:27:21 mrsdurff : not unusual, you're highly intelligent
21:27:39 PeggyG : NECC Unplugged was awesome! So many great sessions and great connections with people!
21:28:02 JoseRodriguez : Boo, Let me get my headphones
21:28:43 mrsdurff : Anyone take pictures while Parisi was webcasting?
21:28:52 SROSEMAN : Vicki Davis's smackdown was a highlight
21:28:56 SROSEMAN : http://www.edubloggercon.com/Web+2.0+Smackdown
21:28:59 mrsdurff : From NECC on Mon & Tue
21:29:04 PeggyG : Chris Lehman did a fantastic, interactive session on Understanding by Design--the group actually created a unit using UBD.
21:29:40 mrsdurff : hey jen
21:29:50 JenW : Hey Lisa
21:29:54 PeggyG : I took hundreds of pictures but didn't get to Lisa Parisi's webcast.
21:30:13 dougsymington : JDub, welcome
21:30:19 mrsdurff : :(
21:30:22 JenW : Hey Doug -- thank you
21:30:31 Cathy E : hey Jen
21:30:43 JenW : Hi Cathy -- How is the new house??? is it old to you yet??
21:30:46 PeggyG : I tried to listen to the first daily highlight session with Lisa from my hotel room but the audio wasn't behaving and kept spacing out.
21:31:06 mrsdurff : it was the wifi
21:31:21 mrsdurff : very challenging
21:31:24 Cathy E : yep - it is fitting like an old shoe
21:31:41 JenW : did you post pictures, CathyE??
21:31:56 Cathy E : yep- I have lots of pic
21:32:15 PeggyG : That's what I thought. Will Richardson told us in his panel on web streaming that the most successful streams from NECC were recorded with ethernet cables--not wifi.
21:32:16 JenW : please send me a link -- when you have a chance
21:32:33 JenW : WiFi is never a good option for streaming -- tetheredin works much better
21:32:38 JenW : LOL -- that I have seen
21:32:40 PeggyG : I posted many of my photos on the NECC Ning.
21:33:12 PeggyG : Which link do you want?
21:33:24 JenW : smiles -- I have seen your pictures, PeggyG -- thanks
21:33:31 JenW : Cathy just moved into a new home -- a few months ago
21:33:37 JenW : ON THE OCEAN -- hmmm, bay??
21:33:40 Cathy E : @Jen here is a mixture of house and stuff http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=cwe+mashoes&s=rec
21:33:43 JenW : and I wish to see those
21:34:04 PeggyG : When I videotaped the WOW2 podcast, I zoomed in on the speaker box when you were speaking. :-)
21:34:22 mrsdurff : some of the recorded ustreams had no sound as of this am
21:34:46 JenW : LOL
21:34:50 JenW : I <heart> peggyg
21:34:50 PeggyG : @mrsdurff-I noticed that too. Think that's a ustream.tv problem???
21:35:05 mrsdurff : @Peggy yes
21:35:06 JenW : nope -- I think tethered is just more secure -- meaning connection
21:35:14 JenW : not safety
21:35:21 mrsdurff : i attended church wed night via ustream
21:35:21 PeggyG : I really missed you Jen!
21:35:30 mrsdurff : and they had many problems
21:35:56 JenW : Peggy -- I missed you too -- but -- I gotta say, I attended MORE at NECC this year virtually, then I attended last year when I was really there
21:36:00 PeggyG : I love the idea of having everything uploaded for Webcast Academy so we can do it at our own pace :-)
21:36:03 JenW : but I still needed HUGS
21:36:15 JenW : and needed to give HUGS too
21:36:54 PeggyG : I know what you mean! There were tons of hugs all around!!
21:37:37 SROSEMAN : Jen, what were the highlights for you as a virtual participant
21:37:44 JenW : ahhh --- highlights
21:38:10 mrsdurff : the highlights were NOT the wifi and the A?C
21:38:18 mrsdurff : A/C
21:38:55 PeggyG : Kristin Hokanson's copyright presentation was fantastic! She had several handouts in addition to things on her wikispace. Don't think the ustream was too good because there was so much noise in the background, but the session was really valuable.
21:39:08 dougsymington : skype dougsymington to join the convo, anyone who'd like....
21:39:45 SROSEMAN : I was impressed with Vicki's smackdown!!
21:40:26 Cathy E : Peggy can you give us the link to her wiki?
21:40:31 PeggyG : I use Call Recorder and Conference Recorder on my Mac and it records both sides of the conversation.
21:41:22 SROSEMAN : interesting JenW
21:41:31 SROSEMAN : your perseptions that is
21:42:10 PeggyG : http://theconnectedclassroom.wikispaces.com/
21:42:21 Cathy E : thanks Peggy
21:43:11 SROSEMAN : all sessions should be videotaped and archived
21:43:18 PeggyG : I had friends who weren't able to get into some sessions unless they went an hour early. But I guess that's inevitable when there are 16,000 people.
21:43:28 mrsdurff : or Jen - more events in SL
21:43:44 SROSEMAN : yes, I attended one in SL
21:43:49 SROSEMAN : very impressive
21:43:56 mrsdurff : the closing keynote
21:45:23 PeggyG : An option that requires less bandwidth than ustream was to videotape the session and upload the video after the event. You can't backchannel chat but at least you can see the session. I found the backchannel sometimes took the session off track.
21:45:41 mrsdurff : i think we need to find a way to ensure that ustream DOES have an impact on conferences
21:47:01 mrsdurff : what jen?
21:47:11 PeggyG : The permissions weren't an issue during NECC as far as I could tell.
21:47:56 PeggyG : Absolutely Jen!
21:48:05 mrsdurff : i am totally against the idea of non-presenters presenting anyway (k12online)
21:48:49 mrsdurff : good point on growth jen
21:50:07 PeggyG : But there are many people who haven't heard those "repeat" sessions--it's brand new to them.
21:50:35 mrsdurff : i followed a lot of new NECC attendees during NECC
21:50:52 mrsdurff : in Twitter
21:51:04 PeggyG : I met a lot of new people at NECC that I met through the Ning conversations.
21:52:02 mrsdurff : and we know
21:52:32 PeggyG : I really liked the constructivist panel with Gary Stager, Sylvia Martinez and others.
21:53:50 chrisssve : I understood the last keynote speaker wasn't well received, but it was still really great to be hearing a bit of NECC in SL. That was what was really nice.
21:54:06 mrsdurff : she wasn't?
21:54:23 mrsdurff : i thought she was an excellent speaker
21:54:27 PeggyG : I also really liked the Research presentations presented by the award-winning projects.
21:55:19 PeggyG : I participated in the Walls Came Down session from the Blogger's Cafe and it was great!
21:55:29 mrsdurff : guaranteed ustreams of all sessions would be worth a fee
21:55:40 SROSEMAN : I would pay a fee
21:55:44 chrisssve : me too
21:55:51 PeggyG : I don't think you can guarantee ustream sessions because of the bandwidth issues.
21:56:11 mrsdurff : McIntosh was hysterical
21:56:16 JenW : they would have to tether in
21:56:39 chrisssve : guess, that might be what I was referring to.
21:57:05 eplybon : @mrsdurff define "non-presenters"
21:57:48 mrsdurff : oh those who submitt proposal but are not chosen to present
21:58:22 mrsdurff : gotta fill the coffee - brb
21:58:52 eplybon : following the Twitter traffic on the closing keynote was interesting
21:59:12 eplybon : some ppl really liked it, others really didn't
21:59:32 mrsdurff : interesting
22:00:26 eplybon : I was on a plane, so I couldn't be there
22:00:40 mrsdurff : and we were using pownce, plurk, ping.fm, & summize too
22:00:59 PeggyG : Summize was a great resource!
22:01:13 mrsdurff : Google Notebook?
22:02:01 PeggyG : That was Richardson's session--backchannel definitely influenced it
22:02:35 chrisssve : I'm looking forward to k12online 2008. Couldn't go to NECC, appreciated catching bits in SL. Hope to catch NECC in DC next year.
22:03:04 mrsdurff : i'm looking forward to Educon2.1
22:03:41 chrisssve : when is that?
22:03:50 PeggyG : I used Pageflakes a lot--thanks to the jumpstart I got from Lisa Durff :-)
22:03:50 mrsdurff : twitter still down - anyone know for how long?
22:04:07 chrisssve : I think it's for at least 2 hours
22:04:15 mrsdurff : Educon is in January
22:04:22 eplybon : about another hour and a half
22:04:22 mrsdurff : it is in Philly
22:04:27 eplybon : says back at 8:30 pst
22:04:35 mrsdurff : pooh
22:04:37 mrsdurff : thanks
22:05:13 mrsdurff : mr. collaboration himself
22:05:19 PeggyG : There were many newbies in Blogger's Cafe this year and it was great having the mentor tshirts to identify helpers. I got several people started on things. :-)
22:05:30 JenW : http://www.budtheteacher.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page
22:06:38 mrsdurff : 's http://budtheteacher.typepad.com/
22:06:48 mrsdurff : \she beat me
22:06:52 mrsdurff : sigh
22:07:04 SROSEMAN : is back channeling being used in today's classrooms and at what grade level
22:07:12 PeggyG : I learned about web2.0guru at NECC Unplugged and she has some awesome resources on her wiki.
22:07:39 PeggyG : http://web20guru.wikispaces.com/strategies
22:08:24 PeggyG : Great debriefing with all of you! Happy 4th!
22:08:31 mrsdurff : yes happy 4th!
22:09:03 PeggyG : which link are you looking for now?
22:09:15 chrisssve : Didn't know this was from Vancouver Island. It's beautiful there.
22:09:46 SROSEMAN : where on Vancouver Island
22:10:30 mrsdurff : awww
22:10:33 PeggyG : Great idea Jen! Be sure to send the link
22:10:37 mrsdurff : great idea jen
22:10:44 SROSEMAN : why

22:12:47 SROSEMAN : I am from Ottawa
22:12:49 SROSEMAN : ok

22:12:56 SROSEMAN : I am looking at the map
22:13:11 chrisssve : Lovely there. Was in Tofino, and Qualicum
22:14:47 PeggyG : You should do a show just on virtual field trips!
22:14:50 SROSEMAN : I was in Tofino too.. Wickinnnish and Duff's Cove
22:14:57 SROSEMAN : love it
22:16:38 chrisssve : I have done Iditarod lessons for a few years. it's really a cool event. I am not even a dog lover and I love the Iditarod
22:16:53 mrsdurff : ditto
22:17:06 JenW : Pegg y -- is this the WOW2 session? http://www.flickr.com/photos/elemenous/2635031770/
22:17:47 PeggyG : Those are some of the pics but they aren't mine. I think they are from Lucy Gray.

22:18:44 JenW : Peggy???
22:18:49 JenW : is that the WOW show??
22:19:22 PeggyG : There was a teacher in the WOW2 webcast who said she listened every week on podcast because she could never attend live and she was thrilled to be part of the conversation.
22:19:34 JenW : now that is cool -- did she speak??
22:19:52 PeggyG : Yes-those pics are the WOW show-I didn't know she took so many pictures of me. Blush!

22:20:53 mrsdurff : can you webcast on the Asus
22:20:57 mrsdurff : ?
22:21:13 chrisssve : i think that if you do a search in flickr, just put in necc 2008, you get a lot of links to people's pix.
22:21:43 PeggyG : I love my WOW shirt!!
22:22:57 chrisssve : I'm just me, Chris Dahl. Media specialist in MN.
