Week of May 16 - 22, 2009

Welcome to this week's edition of the EdTechTalk (ETT) Newsletter! With the close of the school year fast approaching for many locations throughout the United States, it was a real treat to hear Matt Montagne talk about the radio show that he produces on Ustream with his students. Several seniors that participated in producing 'Gator Radio' shows shared their experiences and reflected upon the past year as an online broadcaster. If you missed the live show be sure to listen to the podcast - you won't want to miss this motivating and inspiring podcast!

This weekend many ETT show hosts and listeners will be participating in a virtual conference created by the 'Webheads in Action'. The online convergence conference began today and will run through May 24. A detailed schedule of the synchronous and asynchronous events can be found at the WIA wiki: http://www.vancestevens.com/papers/evonline2002/wiaoc09may22.htm.

It's never to late to join the latest addition to the ETT family! There is an exciting edition to the ETT network. Alex Ragone and Arvind Grover created a Facebook page for Fans of ETT.  You can find the page here. Not a member of Facebook yet?  Now's a perfect time to set up an account.

As part of the ETT community, ETT's own Sheila Adams and Rye Jr. High (Rye, NH, US) will experiment with an "Echo of Earthcast09" on Thursday, May 28th, at 10:45am EDT (14:45 GMT). Many of her students didn't get to participate fully in the "Earthcast09" so a shorter version of the 24 hour "Earthcast09" webcastathon will be air from the Earthbridges.net/studio. The students would love an audience cheering them on as they present a quiz and ask listeners to answer the questions live in the chat room on Ustream. More information can be found at http://earthbridges.net.

A Week in Review

This week, Lisa Parisi, Sheila Adams, and Maria Knee led a conversation about dealing with multitasking. They discussed an article from Educational Leadership March 2009 Issue.  They were joined in the Skype call by Sue Roseman.

EdTechWeekly#128
An episode without Jen, but with extra snips and snails and geeky netbook tales.

This week ETT is proud to announce two special celebrations! ETT show host, Sharon Peters, was selected as one of the 'Teachers of the Future' for the NAIS programme. NAIS represents approximately 1,300 independent schools and associations in the United States as well as affiliates with schools abroad. Teachers of the Future exemplify excellence in teaching through their leadership, innovation, and commitment to environmentalism, equity and justice, globalism and (of course) technology! Sharon will lead a discussion forum throughout the school year and create an instructional video that will be featured on the NAIS website as well as posted at Teacher Tube.

ETT member, Kathy Cassidy, has been named as the winner of the '2009 Kay L. Bitter Vision Award for Excellence in Tech-Based PK–2 Education'. The award is given by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE®) to recognize PK–2 educators who demonstrate vision and creativity in a project or program that effectively integrates technology in the classroom. Kathy will be presented with a $500 scholarship to be used for the recipient's program and recognized at ISTE's NECC 2009 in June.

If you would like your celebration included in the ETT newsletter please email us at [email protected].

EdTechTalk is a community of people interested in the use of technology to improve teaching and learning at all levels of education throughout the world. As a Worldbridges community, it embraces the values of collaboration and inclusiveness. The primary activity of the community is the production of a number of live, interactive webcasts. These programs cover a wide range of topics relating to educational technology. Shows are typically streamed live, and listeners can interact with one another and the show hosts through a text chat. Recordings of the shows are released as podcasts. Participation in the community is encouraged for anyone who has an interest in educational technology. Participation may take many forms, from simply listening to shows produced by the community to more actively working to produce and distribute content for the network.
