Welcome to this week's EdTechTalk Newsletter.  Many shows are enjoying a hiatus during the summer break occurring in the Western Hemisphere.  In fact, two webcasters, Sharon Peters and John Schinker are in Africa right now participating in the Teachers without Borders program. But there is still plenty of professional development to look forward to.  Why not learn how to become a webcaster yourself?

The Webcast Academy Class of 4.1 has begun, but it's not too late to join in the fun and chaos. The Week in Review

• EdTechWeekly is on 'hiatus' for the month of July, but assorted 'substitute' webcasts will take place during their time slot.  These include experimental shows  by Webcast Academy interns and assorted other interview/discussion programs.  On July 19, regular ETW contributor Gary will be hosting a science related edtech discussion.  If you (and by 'you', we mean anyone receiving this newsletter) would be interested in participating in one of these substitute webcasts as a guest host and/or discussion moderator, please post your ideas in the ETT Project Forum.

  Glen Bledsoe, Jeff Schwartz, and Paul Allison will be interviewed by Kevin Hodgson on this podcast. We talked about collaboration and the tools we use to collaborate in the classroom.

  Glen, Jeff, and Paul are chapter authors and Kevin is one of the editors of a recently published book Teaching the New Writing: Technology, Change, and Assessment in the 21st-Century Classroom.

  Chapter authors Paul Allison, a high school teacher, technology liaison at the New York City Writing Project, and facilitator of TTT; Glen Bledsoe, an elementary teacher and teacher consultant at the Oregon Writing Project at the University of Oregon; and Jeff Schwartz, high school teacher and member of the Bread Loaf Teachers Network, will shared examples of their classroom practices.

EdTechTalk is a community of people interested in the use of technology to improve teaching and learning at all levels of education throughout the world. As a Worldbridges community, it embraces the values of collaboration and inclusiveness. The primary activity of the community is the production of a number of live, interactive webcasts. These programs cover a wide range of topics relating to educational technology. Shows are typically streamed live, and listeners can interact with one another and the show hosts through a text chat. Recordings of the shows are released as podcasts. Participation in the community is encouraged for anyone who has an interest in educational technology. Participation may take many forms, from simply listening to shows produced by the community to more actively working to produce and distribute content for the network.
