Welcome to this week's EdTechTalk (ETT) newsletter! The ETT community continued to produce top rate shows this week. Among the notable was Instructional Design Live on Friday. Maggi Savin Baden from the United Kingdom discussed problem based learning. Last Saturday also saw Carly Shuler talk about innovations in mobile learning with primaries. The K12Online Echo featured Beth Ritter-Guth, who is currently working on geocaching. Kevin Honeycutt also had an event in the virtual world of Second Life. In conjunction with DEN and ISTE, Kevin held a "sit-in" (read hippie) to discuss the use of firewalls versus teaching students to use digital tools safely. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that there was a fantastic concert in Second Life last Saturday. It was held at Luskwood to benefit The Passionate Redheads team of The Relay for Life of Second Life.
Beth Ritter-Guth shared both her 2009 K12 Onine presentation: Unlikely Coordinates: Geocaching Across the Curriulum as well as her personal experience with geocaching. Sheila Adams, our streamer was able to add her perspective as a middle school teacher. Lots of learning and lots of fun!
Our conversation this week was in response to the NY Times article by Elizabeth green, published on March 2, 2010, tiltled, Building a Better Teacher .
John and Jen "fly solo" (ok ... in truth ... Dave was there as the silent pilot) to review this week's news and resources in education and technology.
Recently the group of teachers whose students are using Youth Voices have been paying more attention to both the gamers in our classrooms and to the educational leaders who are suggesting that we consider bringing gaming into the curriculum. We are looking for ideas, answer to our questions and inspiration from students like Jake and critical friends like Suzie Boss, both of whom join us on this episode of Teachers Teaching Teachers.Jake is a senior in Chris Sloan's New Media class at Judge Memorial High School in Salt Lake City, Utah.Suzie Boss is the co-writer with Jane Krauss of Reinventing Project-Based Learning, and she has recently interviewed Jane McGonigal for WorldChanging.
