They are interviewing Angus King, and an engineer from Google and others. We will tweet this out! They will be broadcasting as part of their student presentation.

21:42:33 chris sloan: @Chris.  When I'm enthused, it can rub off on the students and that's pretty cool if it does.  But sometimes, just finding that thing that I'm enthusiastic about saves me too
21:45:01 chris sloan: ... but back to the students.  When they catch fire, it's an amazing thing.  I suppose it has something to do with my enthusiasm.
21:45:08 Chris: @chris an important life skill for us all to learn from!
21:45:20 Fred Haas: It is a lot more work to make the kinds of changes in an online format, mainly because you have to do so much prior planning. The essential questions as a guide can work , particularly if they are broad enough but require enough specific hooks to offer connections.

21:49:48 carolteach4: In our middle school, we still have books that classes read as a whole class, but we also have book circles that the kids really enjoy.
21:51:47 carolteach4: Our middle school kids read 1,320 books between March and April -400 kids-all of our kids carry a pleasure reading book to all classes. Lots of kids loving reading - some not- but overall, reading is valued.
21:52:13 chris sloan: I think my students need to still be careful readers of text that require longer attention spans (like books) in addition to being able to communicate effectively multimodally
21:52:24 SusanEttenheim: wow carol! yes we have required pleasure reading 3 times a week
21:55:00 carolteach4: Some of our teaching are finally "getting" the power of Google docs. As more teachers use them themselves, they'll be more apt to encourage students to use them.
21:57:34 carolteach4: I've been following some of Steve Hargadon't 21st century learning webinars - interesting speakers - lots of whom really pushing kids learning sans formal classrooms and teachers.

22:00:10 carolteach4: He interviewed Chris Bonk last evening - more for blended schools - earlier Dr. Robert Epstein who is very anti public education with kids grouped together by age-feels we are keeping kids from taking on responsibility of adulthood by grouping them with peers.
22:00:48 carolteach4: I was really quite offended by some of Dr. Epstein's comments, but I can appreciate where he's coming from.

22:01:46 chris sloan: That makes sense to me.  Like I mentioned earlier in the conversation, when my students enter into dialogue with the teachers on EdTechTalk, they hold their own.  It's almost like a conversation among equals

22:04:37 carolteach4: You at TTT (along with Seedlings) have unlocked a whole new world for me. Now I am working on trying to find opportunities for my students to have a similar participatory experience. NASA offeres some during the school day.

22:06:31 carolteach4: I got a few kids in for the Scholastic webinar with authors (R.L.Stein was one of the 4) playing a game like "So you want to be a millionair" with trivial from adolescent and kids books. They had access to the questions prior to the show and played along with the authors and LOVED it.
22:08:17 carolteach4: I just met a teacher from a neighboring town who does lunch interviews with his students and "experts" and then podcasts the interviews. It's wild. His daughter is coming to my school next year, and he's going to help me institute something like that.
