19:42:27  loonyhiker : and steph
 19:42:28  cheryloakes~seedlings : we are back
19:42:47  matt montagne : I consider myself more of an instructional designer than a technology coordinator
19:42:48  cheryloakes~seedlings : thanks for all the help from the chat room.
 19:42:56  matt montagne : audio=great
19:43:00  cheryloakes~seedlings : Losing skype has not happened for months
 19:43:08  cheryloakes~seedlings : 2 times tonight
19:43:25  PeggyG : are there instructional designers who don't work online?
19:43:25  Fred Boss : Can hear at last - iTunes has taken over the stream for me
 19:43:40  cheryloakes~seedlings : ok Fred, sorry we didn't know you couldn't hear
19:43:52  alicebarr (SEEDlings) : @Peggy I wonder about that as well. I think the lines are starting to blur
19:43:59  Connie Sitterley : Instructional Design at k-12 is often more a Curriculum Coordinator than Tech-hopefully they work together
19:44:26  cheryloakes~seedlings : yes, connie, they should be working together especially today
19:44:31  PeggyG : these days I mostly hear about it in relation to online learning
19:45:27  Fred Boss : No problem Cheryl - first time for me using this system. It's not too bad either. Very clear sound
 19:45:42  cheryloakes~seedlings : Fred you are already a PRO!
19:45:55  cheryloakes~seedlings : Fred, where are you from?
 19:46:17  Fred Boss : Thanks - blushing :D
19:46:54  Fred Boss : I'm at home in Drogheda - 20 miles north of Dublin in Ireland
19:47:16  cheryloakes~seedlings : Oh, Fred, so it is nearly midnight
19:47:31  dennisar : Do you use virtual worlds?
19:47:37  Fred Boss : Not that early - nearly 1pm now
19:47:39  cheryloakes~seedlings : Fred, we admire you. This will also be a podcast tomorrow at edtechtalk.com and bobsprankle.com
19:47:48  PeggyG : Jennifer Maddrell (ETTWeekly co-host) is one of the regular presenters on the Instructional Design webcast and they have discussed lots of ideas for best practices for online learning. Be sure to check out the recordings. They are done in Elluminate so you get to see the slides/visuals.
19:48:16  dennisar : @Fred my relatives from Cork
19:48:20  cheryloakes~seedlings : Oh, I am bad with my GMT, thought you were further east
 19:48:33  PeggyG : http://edtechtalk.com/idlive
19:48:38  matt montagne : How smart...having teachers take an online course prior to having them design their own online course
19:48:41  Fred Boss : I know, I've been following Seedlings & Bob's podcasts for a long time now. Thought I would stay up tonight and actually attend
 19:48:55  cheryloakes~seedlings : glad you did!
19:49:07  alicebarr (SEEDlings) : That's great Fred! Glad you are here!
19:49:39  Fred Boss : @dennisar - the rebel county and real capital of Ireland! They would say at least :-)
19:50:02  cheryloakes~seedlings : Fred, are you an educator?
19:50:33  PeggyG : keep an open mind Alice :-)
 19:50:40  Fred Boss : @alicebarr - thanks and hi
 19:50:44  alicebarr (SEEDlings) : I am trying...
19:50:50  PeggyG : just teasing of course!!
 19:50:54  alicebarr (SEEDlings) : :)
19:51:01  dennisar : @Fred - I took my family there. We toured western Ireland coast up through Galway.
19:51:26  PeggyG : there is a new integration coming for online teaching/learning: Blackboard Collaborate that brings together Elluminate, Blackboard and Wimba :-)
19:51:40  cheryloakes~seedlings : Now Peggy, that is so smart
19:52:19  Fred Boss : I'm an art teacher by trade and now work in CPD with the www.ncte.ie - govt. agency that helps primary and post primary schools in Ireland integrate ICT. So now I work in teach PD
19:52:27  PeggyG : I agree! they claim to be bringing the best from all of them together
19:52:51  cheryloakes~seedlings : Great Fred, what a nice creative place for you to continue your work
19:53:04  Fred Boss : @dennisar - Galway's a great town for sightseeing and partying too
 19:53:05  PeggyG : http://www.blackboard.com/sites/collaborate/index.html
19:53:41  PeggyG : I can't think of Galway and not start humming Galway Bay! Love that song!
19:54:12  cheryloakes~seedlings : Fred, what does a typical school look like in terms of laptops, or computers!
 19:54:21  dennisar : @fred - loved Denny's bookstore - and the partying
19:54:33  matt montagne : 2nd life cut back on employees
19:54:48  cheryloakes~seedlings : oh, thanks matt, i've not been in for months
 19:54:50  dennisar : @Bob - that info new to me - :-(
 19:55:06  Fred Boss : @PeggyC - try this one instead = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Nt_TirDyKU
 19:55:37  alicebarr (SEEDlings) : @Karmon Sl Stuff
19:55:40  matt montagne : one of the stanford libraries has a big presence in SL
 19:55:42  cheryloakes~seedlings : @karmon   for second life
 19:55:58  cheryloakes~seedlings : say stephanie sent you
 19:56:06  PeggyG : love it Fred!! :-)
19:56:44  cheryloakes~seedlings : THAT the humanities and technology CAMP
 19:56:46  alicebarr (SEEDlings) : http://thatcampnewengland.org
19:57:22  Fred Boss : @cheryloakes~seedlings  - not great. No real 1 to 1 initiatives. Old PCs. IWBs have really taken off in primary sector and grants just released to post primary schools for spending on ICT  - http://www.ncte.ie/ictgrant2010postprimary/
19:57:57  cheryloakes~seedlings : we use a lot of the resources you all have developed with IWB, so thanks
19:58:07  PeggyG : regional camps are a great idea
19:58:27  PeggyG : isn't that the way it goes :-) ask a busy person...
19:58:58  alicebarr (SEEDlings) : Amazing what social media can help us accomplish!
19:59:12  PeggyG : that is so true!
19:59:26  cheryloakes~seedlings : What are you doing in your schools with social media?
19:59:47  alicebarr (SEEDlings) : Nings, Wikis and Google docs
 20:00:00  PeggyG : yeah! UMass-Amherst where I got my M.Ed. and Ed.D. :-)
20:00:36  cheryloakes~seedlings : we are using glogster, nings , google domain, I have a FB page for my resource room, but it is lurking just now.
 20:00:54  cheryloakes~seedlings : Peggy,  I never knew that . A New Englander
20:01:07  Connie Sitterley : Google docs, bookmarking, wikis, blogs, edmodo
20:01:11  PeggyG : there are a growing number of unconferences! love it because most are also virtual
20:01:30  PeggyG : yes a New Englander! started my career as a principal in Leverett MA
20:01:40  loonyhiker : sorry, lost my internet and had to reboot computer :(
20:01:47  cheryloakes~seedlings : Loonyhiker, I just asked for people to share if they are using social media in their schools?
20:02:20  PeggyG : edubloggercon before ISTE always has more people than that and it works great-just break into groups
 20:02:34  cheryloakes~seedlings : Thanks Peggy
20:03:14  Fred Boss : Sadly no longer in a school, but when I was = blogs, skype and a bit of Flickr (all the rest is new today - I've been gone a while now)
20:03:35  loonyhiker : i had my grad class join plurk and I have them blog as part of their assignments
20:03:37  PeggyG : they organized the unconference in a really good way-put out pieces of chart paper on many tables. people added something to the chart they wanted to talk about and other people walked around and signed their name to indicate interest. then they formed the groups around those with highest interest
 20:03:37  cheryloakes~seedlings : yes, I forget FlickR is a social media
20:03:56  dennisar : Unconferences always depend on the folks that show up to share.
20:03:57  cheryloakes~seedlings : Loonyhiker, thanks for sharing that, so many good ideas
 20:04:09  PeggyG : true Dennis
20:04:32  Fred Boss : I like the sign-p idea. Would be good for a staff meeting too
20:04:33  cheryloakes~seedlings : Yes, and Dennis, the people who show up are looking to be with other un-people.
20:04:44  dennisar : FexEx Days - 24 hours to do what you want to deliver value.
 20:05:04  alicebarr (SEEDlings) : @Dennisar Love that!
20:05:20  bobsprankle : schools should have Fedx days
20:05:27  alicebarr (SEEDlings) : Oh yeah!!!
20:05:53  PeggyG : it takes awhile for people to feel comfor scheduletable coming to a conference that they don't have a schedule and a keynote speaker
 20:05:54  dennisar : @Cheryl @ Peggy - a PLN meet up.
20:06:10  cheryloakes~seedlings : yes, dennisar, that really makes it
 20:06:20  cheryloakes~seedlings : Hi nancyvonw, welcome
20:06:28  alicebarr (SEEDlings) : Hey nancy! Welcome!
20:06:29  Fred Boss : What abot the Google idea - only 80% of time on curriculum the school's way and 20% on the student's approach ?
20:06:34  PeggyG : exactly! I love them!! but some people took awhile to "get it"
 20:06:35  bobsprankle : hi nancy!!!
20:06:53  cheryloakes~seedlings : yes Fred, the google idea is what we really strive for
 20:06:55  nancyvonw : Hello!
20:07:03  bobsprankle : great to see you! how are you?
20:07:14  PeggyG : bigger than that for edubloggercon-ISTE
 20:07:15  bobsprankle : hi Deb!!
 20:07:37  cheryloakes~seedlings : Thanks Peggy!
20:07:39  PeggyG : I have I have many pictures from the ISTE edubloggercon
20:07:56  cheryloakes~seedlings : Yes, Peggy, I am remembering that photo has over 100 people
20:08:13  PeggyG : yes we filled the entire stairwell :-)
 20:08:16  cheryloakes~seedlings : hello Deb! welcome
 20:08:24  dbarrows : Hello
 20:08:28  dbarrows : Hello
 20:08:31  stephanie c : hi deb!
20:08:53  PeggyG : and we had to take 2 group photos because of people who couldn't arrive at beginning of day :-)
 20:08:57  dbarrows : Congrats. Steph.
20:09:16  PeggyG : your plans sound fantastic Steph!
20:09:17  alicebarr (SEEDlings) : Hi Deb
 20:09:32  cheryloakes~seedlings : knowledge transfer
20:09:42  cheryloakes~seedlings : after you go to a conference share, share, share
 20:10:03  dbarrows : Yes, Cheryl - that's a great idea.
20:10:11  PeggyG : keep the hashtag short :-)
20:10:21  PeggyG : need to leave room for the message :-)
 20:10:31  cheryloakes~seedlings : of course, PEggy
20:10:32  Fred Boss : Agree with Cheryl
20:11:48  PeggyG : are you streaming any of it?
20:12:01  cheryloakes~seedlings : Peggy, she said it would be up to participants
20:12:13  Fred Boss : The famous dogs?
 20:12:29  PeggyG : ok thanks
 20:12:35  cheryloakes~seedlings : lifeis.bbc.earth.com
 20:12:39  cheryloakes~seedlings : did I get it?
20:13:06  dennisar : I created a wiki for Educon 2.2 to extend the conversation, but it never took off.
 20:13:08  cheryloakes~seedlings : http://lifeis.bbcearth.com
20:13:20  PeggyG : even when you stream it's important that the focus stays on the f2f group and the virtual group participates secondarily--don't want to lose the important conversations and those are hard to stream
20:13:56  PeggyG : that is usually the case Dennis. the ongoing conversation after the event quickly fades as people return to their regular routines
 20:14:13  cheryloakes~seedlings : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDZFcDGpL4U&feature=channel
20:14:47  Fred Boss : looks great
20:15:03  PeggyG : RSA Animate really is great! Pink's video is excellent
 20:15:23  bobsprankle : hi nancy1!
 20:15:26  dennisar : The Educon 2.2 wiki I created: http://tinyurl.com/2azp59x
20:16:07  PeggyG : they remind me of the commoncraft videos but much more complex and thought provoking!
20:16:13  nancyvonw : I"m sorry, the Ustream shows "off air" ??
 20:16:18  cheryloakes~seedlings : yes, peggy
20:16:24  Fred Boss : Being an art teacher I love the RSA - I did a whiteboard stop-motion animation with my students once - they loved it and got into it from the start
20:16:40  cheryloakes~seedlings : nancyvonw. go to the top of the page participate live and click on the speakers
20:16:41  alicebarr (SEEDlings) : Nancy, click Edtech A and you can hear in iTunes
 20:17:01  PeggyG : much more thought-provoking rather than a "tutorial" :-)
 20:17:22  cheryloakes~seedlings : http://digitalbooktalk.com/
20:17:25  PeggyG : does it inspire you to want to create a video like that?
 20:17:43  nancyvonw : Ohhhhhh! :)
 20:18:11  PeggyG : that's so exciting Alice!
20:18:25  PeggyG : I definitely want to see the links!
 20:18:37  dennisar : Dan Pink's Drive by RSA - http://tinyurl.com/2ga47re
20:19:18  dbarrows : Oh good - I'd love to see the links too.
 20:19:24  cheryloakes~seedlings : http://www.pindax.com/index.asp?
20:19:54  Fred Boss : http://www.fisbookclub.com/  - this might be similar (?) Gets the students to talk about the books they read and then share this with others around Ireland, who can then post their version of the review. It's a walled garden approach
 20:20:20  cheryloakes~seedlings : http://k12onlineconference.org/?p=628
20:20:29  PeggyG : http://en.linoit.com/ we're starting to use this as an alternative to wallwisher--few more features :-)
20:20:54  Fred Boss : Pindax looks good - thanks for that one
20:20:55  alicebarr (SEEDlings) : @PeggyG They so rocked this year! Amazing
 20:21:07  PeggyG : definitely!
 20:21:23  PeggyG : incredible presentations!
20:21:46  dbarrows : Have considered doing an Apps session during the Seedlings show or even better a separate show?
20:21:56  PeggyG : someone asked for our must see presentations on K12online and there is no way I could pick one or two. There are so many great ones!
 20:22:16  cheryloakes~seedlings : http://www.ourschool.ca/   http://www.elearningcenter.ca/login/index.php  login as guest

20:26:16  Fred Boss : There's an Irish school involved in shoutlearning according to their online map
20:26:21  dennisar : I have to leave, but wanted to leave a link to this graphic on younger students and virtual worlds: http://tinyurl.com/lhg986
