Hey Alex and Arvind, So, what makes a show on Edtechtalk successful? Your webcast has some of the essentials; a regular schedule, fresh content, a loyal audience (a niche) , and has shown adaptability over time. I do agree that the internet and the way we communicate is changing. Twitter has proven this over the last year or so. In a web 2.? world where everyone can go live (ustream, twitter, etc...) webcasting is a tool that brings back the conversation to a central location. It really is about the Long Tail and at edtechtalk we are about ALL conversations. Yes we do have our Super Shows ie; WOW 2.0, Teachers Teaching Teachers, Edtech Weekly, 21st Century Learning but we are also open to others. At It's Elementary we are getting close our one year anniversary. Our basic philosophy is to bring the conversation to this community and the way I mentioned above. We have a regular schedule. We felt that going every week was not feasible for us. We decided early on that we would target two shows a month but make sure we had at least one. We try to keep our content fresh and we do quarterly plan. We brainstorm possible topics for the summer, fall etc.. We have built an audience and YES twitter does help. And we try not to replicate content that others on ETT are producing. I also think that there will be times when we will face burnout. That's when the idea of guest showhosts really works well. I know Paul at TTT has proposed it before. And I don't feel anyone of us has an obligation to continue our shows forever. There are ways for graceful transitions. Not just stop and not come back. We can bring closure to one program and invite others to take the baton. And feel that it is ok for us to seek other projects either with ETT and the Worldbridges Network or outside of it. As we reach these cross roads on our webcast journey I feel all of us should do what YOU are doing now. We should reach out to the ETT community and get feedback. It gives us validation and helps us seek the direction our show should go. btw 21st Century Learning Webcast rocks. I am a loyal content consumer... Not live but offline as in now. Hi arvind and Alex, I bet there are students who would be interested in being guest hosts, for instance, students who have opinions about technology and education, students who have experience being at 1:1 schools, students who are already hosting their own podcasts, vcasts and blogs. Another thought is that there are people who are experts in adult learning and professional development (not technology exclusively) and it could be interesting to hear from them about how adults learn, about how adults deal with change, etc, all with an eye to helping those of us who provide professional development become more informed and thus better about what we do. Lastly, many of your listeners have passions outside of technology. It could be amazing to learn from them about their interests. So, for instance, a show could be devoted to photography or the brain or SketchUp or kayaking or Morris dancing or conference attending or .... whatever! Wait, now here's my last comment! What about having shows with folks who have spent the past 20 or so years in the educational tech field and are now considering (or already doing) other fields or paths. How did they make the transition? What issues did they have to deal with? What are they doing now (or will they be doing soon)? Cheers, Laurie (Bartels) p.s. Hey guys, how about getting some of the more interesting heads to be on your show next year? Not necessarily just talking about technology, but about change, professional development, their view of the world, etc.. What about going after a stipend from NAIS or some other funding source like EE Ford? You are providing a great service for the independent school world, I'll bet there are people with the vision and creativity and resources to help that service develop and flourish and become... sustainable. You also need to have more women on the show. :-) My 2 cents. Fred
