20:55:36 Cathy_Evanoff: I'll just listen

21:06:50 Cathy_Evanoff: I just watched David Warlick's keynote
21:06:51 dave: darth!
21:07:00 dave: what did you think?
21:07:11 dARTh_Gelwicks: Never underestimate the power...
21:07:22 Cathy_Evanoff: I have not decided
21:07:42 dave: oh?
21:07:45 dave: give me a pro and con

21:10:41 dave: http://halfanhour.blogspot.com/2006/10/selling-idea.html (interesting comment?)
21:11:00 Harold: :o
21:11:29 dave: and again http://www.downes.ca/cgi-bin/page.cgi?post=36106
21:12:45 dARTh_Gelwicks: I have to say I've always wondered myself if the edublogging community was a bit of a "self feeding" environment.
21:13:04 dave: mmm...
21:13:07 dave: wanna chat?
21:13:42 dARTh_Gelwicks: Sure.
21:15:30 JL: http://downes.ca/cgi-bin/page.cgi?post=36106&format=full
21:15:37 dARTh_Gelwicks: Sore feelings means that the armor was cut through to the nerve...something that should happen more often.
21:15:37 JL: http://halfanhour.blogspot.com/
21:16:16 JL: This online conference started yesterday with a pre-recorded keynote by Dave Warlick (to me it's not a keynote unless it's live - but that's just me). It features a number of educational bloggers, mostly (as the title suggests) from the K-12 sector, and mostly from the United States (and not, as one commentator wrote, "top educational bloggers from around the world"). It's kind of like a 'Coming of Age', only presented as a conference. Oh hey wait, it's the same people! Who are - according to themselves - the leading edubloggers. As one person commented today - a 'co-prosperity sphere'. I prefer the term from Jerry Pournelle: the CoDominium. Anyhow - I aggregate more than 300 edubloggers (and leave out just as many again) and try to represent their contributions as fairly as I can in these pages. And that is to me the core of edublogging, not self-styled A-listers. But hey - attend the conference, listen to Warlick and Freedman and Fryer and McIntosh and the rest and judge for yourself. What do I know?
21:16:53 JenM: You are a fast typist JL :)
21:17:03 dARTh_Gelwicks: A conference to draw attention to themselves...isn't the idea of most conferences?
21:18:15 dave: LOL
21:18:26 Harold: he's saying that they're being a LOT BIT self-serving
21:20:11 Cathy_Evanoff: I think the conference is a wonderful idea- and I thank all that have put it together :)
21:20:13 dave: hi cheryl oakes
21:20:22 cheryloakes: Hi Dude!
21:20:27 dave: greetings
21:20:40 cheryloakes: I think the conference is huge and just a great way to offer what people are looking for.
21:21:19 Harold: it's called marketing
21:21:32 dave: lol
21:22:02 dave: http://halfanhour.blogspot.com/2006/10/selling-idea.html

21:36:36 dave: http://adifference.blogspot.com/2006/10/k12-online-kick-off-and-touch-do...
21:37:05 cheryloakes: We can't get ourselves or our teachers up to speed with how to monitor, teach and coach these kids!
21:37:10 dARTh_Gelwicks: I wanted to ask should we be teaching writing for the web when we're teaching writing?
21:37:38 dARTh_Gelwicks: If we can't get up to speed, what do we leave the administration with? Turn it off!
21:37:39 dave: depends of whether we're trying to preserve the part of our culture that's dying
