21:23:43 Susie: Yes.  I'm here.  Trying to think how it will work with edublogger, the DEN visit to Chris's school, and TEDxPhilly all on the same day.
21:24:04 sylvia: hi peggy
21:24:06 PeggyG: that's going to be a challenge Susie

21:24:27 PeggyG: Hi Sylvia :-)
21:24:42 Chris Sloan: I lost connecction from Skype.  Connection is pretty spotty here in the dorms at Michigan State

21:26:47 PeggyG: it's not a blogger's group now
21:27:14 Susie: I didn't understand at all what it was the first time I attended ISTE.  By year two last year, I got it.
21:27:18 PeggyG: I love starting every ISTE conference with Edubloggercon!
21:27:32 SusanEttenheim: Susie where and what do you teach?
21:27:34 PeggyG: it's like a "school within a school" concept :-)
21:27:47 Susie: I'm a media specialist in Indianapolis
21:27:55 SusanEttenheim: what grades?
21:27:59 SusanEttenheim: welcome!
21:28:18 Susie: 3 K-4 schools, a 5-6 and a 7-8
21:28:30 SusanEttenheim: wow that's a great range!
21:28:40 PeggyG: I agree completely Sylvia!!

21:29:31 sylvia: hey alec
21:29:46 courosa: hey sylvia
21:29:57 PeggyG: that is what I love about the various SIG playground areas too--lots of opportunity to meet new people and introduce them to new tools and ideas
21:31:43 courosa: still can't get the audio to work
21:31:45 SusanEttenheim: hi mrami2
21:31:49 SusanEttenheim: hi adrian
21:31:53 SusanEttenheim: hi taml17

21:32:01 mrami2: Hi everyone
21:32:05 mrami2: I had trouble with skype

21:32:40 courosa: thanks peggy, that worked
21:32:46 PeggyG: great!
21:33:16 PeggyG: those informal connections are so important at the conference!
21:33:39 PeggyG: even breakfast at your hotel can be a fantastic connecting place!
21:33:48 SusanEttenheim: http://64.34.251.15:8002 try this - thanks to peggy
21:34:01 SusanEttenheim: are you going too peggy?
21:34:21 PeggyG: I actually made a fantastic new connection in the shuttle on the way back from the conference to the airport last year!
21:34:25 PeggyG: yes I'll be there :-)
21:34:36 SusanEttenheim: taml17, mrami2, adrian are you all going too?

21:34:46 SusanEttenheim: yes
21:34:59 TamL17: Not going to make it this year--hope you all post lots!
21:35:16 SusanEttenheim: I'm not either but I'm looking forward to hearing about it!
21:35:23 PeggyG: it's a fantastic experience!!! one of my favorites!!!Constructivist Consortium--I've been twice
21:35:29 SusanEttenheim: hi DebbyKurti welcome
21:35:34 DebbyKurti: hi :)
21:35:38 sylvia: thanks peggy :-)
21:36:05 SusanEttenheim: hi sking58 and krains welcome!
21:36:12 SusanEttenheim: where and what do you teach?
21:36:39 sking58: I am a principal at Hershey Middle School in Hershey PA
21:36:42 DebbyKurti: I'm in the high desert of california... close to death valley... it's toasty right now
21:36:43 @krains: I'm a tehnology instructional specialist in Alabama.
21:36:48 PeggyG: I especially like Constructivist Consortium because you not only get inspired, you get the opportunity to create something and have new tools to continue to use when you get back home.
21:37:10 SusanEttenheim: can you all hear ok?
21:37:16 PeggyG: yes hearing fine
21:37:20 Adrian: WHoo hooooo I haz sound now :)
21:37:32 ChrisLehmann: Hi Sue!
21:37:35 Susie: Thinking about stopping in Hershey on our way.  SHould we?  Driving most of way tomorrow, then into Philly Friday morning
21:37:42 SusanEttenheim: great adrian!
21:37:47 sking58: no; I am working on it. Hi Chris!
21:37:57 SusanEttenheim: click on edtechtalk A
21:38:27 courosa: crashing issues tonight - never had that before
21:38:44 sking58: I can hear now!!
21:38:55 DebbyKurti: no sound :( checking settings
21:38:56 Susie: How do I translate what I learn into classroom practice?  How do I best get what I learn across to others?
21:39:04 PeggyG: which browser Courosa? did you upgrade to FF 5??
21:39:24 courosa: that's basically my strategy as well
21:39:37 courosa: no, i'm on ff 5.0
21:39:56 courosa: rich examples are a great strategy
21:40:06 SusanEttenheim: thank you susie!
21:40:09 PeggyG: that's what I meant- FF 5.0  That's what I'm using too. Sorry you're having problems
21:40:16 SusanEttenheim: other thoughts and questions???
21:40:17 PeggyG: that's a reason to be anxious Chris!!
21:40:24 SusanEttenheim: comments for our guests??
21:40:59 PeggyG: especially knowing how critical people were of keynotes last year :-)!! You'll be fabulous though and I'm sure that's why you are a keynote!!!! No repeats of last year!!
21:41:04 courosa: wish i were there hear Chris' keynote
21:41:25 DebbyKurti: is it going to be streamed or archived for later?
21:41:33 sking58: I think conferences like ISTE can be overwhelming if you do not have a clear purpose of what you want to get out of the conference
21:41:39 SusanEttenheim: what have you applied to your classes this year?
21:42:07 PeggyG: I think you should try smaller group environments to keep from being overwhelmed--like the playground areas that focus on tools and individual sharing; blogger's cafe, ISTE Unplugged, etc.
21:42:10 SusanEttenheim: and where did you get the idea?
21:42:12 sking58: but I may be one who takes notes on a legal pad :)
21:42:26 PeggyG: I love taking notes on Evernote throughout the conference
21:42:30 SusanEttenheim: is it yellow? :)
21:42:41 sking58: agree with sending teams; we have talked about making time to "debrief" at philly
21:42:45 SusanEttenheim: welcome back krains
21:43:00 sking58: oh no, pink or blue at least
21:43:01 courosa: many people do think there is an elitism around some of the edubloggers, though - more difficult that one would think for a new person to speak to someone like Chris 'the keynote' Lehmann :-)
21:43:28 PeggyG: many of the keynotes and spotlight sessions are videotaped and archived although they are not streamed live
21:43:51 Adrian: In my experience some 'teams' use their own private backchannel during the day.
21:44:00 PeggyG: I agree courosa.
21:44:33 sking58: Peggy and courosa - I agree also
21:44:48 courosa: @peggy if i hadn't had the chance to meet some of these people over the years, i know I would be nervous
21:45:01 SusanEttenheim: hi monika welcome!
21:45:06 monika: hello
21:45:45 PeggyG: sometimes you don't have to approach them to get involved in a conversation. If you sit on a couch or chair next to several of them having a conversation in Blogger's Cafe and you're listening, before you know it they will have included you in the conversation
21:45:51 courosa: I agree, but i am not sure people know that, Sylvia
21:46:10 PeggyG: I remember feeling that way my first year and didn't know anyone
21:46:22 SusanEttenheim: monika  where and what do you teach?
21:46:30 monika: colorado..
21:46:39 monika: should i be hearing sound?
21:46:44 SusanEttenheim: and what grades? and subjects?
21:47:03 monika: we're doing a lab - prek through teachers.. per passion/interest in our district
21:47:14 SusanEttenheim: yes monika - just click on edtechtalk A
21:48:17 Adrian: Let's face it Chris, you have groupies that ppl have to shoulder through :-)
21:48:35 SusanEttenheim: adrian - you're going?
21:48:44 SusanEttenheim: I forgot where and what you teach?
21:49:01 DebbyKurti: click on sound and chat kicked off... but I can hear now :)
21:49:09 SusanEttenheim: great
21:49:19 SusanEttenheim: Debby - are you going to ISTE?
21:49:33 PeggyG: my best keynote was Tim Tyson!!!
21:49:52 DebbyKurti: no, not this year... i presented there the last time it was in philly though, on back channel communication of all things. great city :)
21:50:20 SusanEttenheim: questions/comments for Chris and Sylvia?
21:50:47 courosa: Fabien Cousteau?
21:51:02 PeggyG: he reached us emotionally and pedagogically (Tim Tyson) and he included students in his presentation
21:51:10 carl_gaines: Good Evening Everyone from New Orleans
21:51:29 SusanEttenheim: welcome carl!
21:51:36 SusanEttenheim: are you going to ISTE?
21:52:10 carl_gaines: No, I wish I was!
21:52:16 PeggyG: I think it was Phillipe Costeau
21:52:39 Adrian: Ok choo guys, I'm getting a little jealous down here in Oz :)
21:53:08 SusanEttenheim: carl - comments/questions for Sylvia and/or Chris?
21:53:12 carl_gaines: Will follow on Twitter and Edcom
21:53:24 PeggyG: that sounds so wonderful!!
21:54:13 carl_gaines: Just concerned about the lack of enrollment in Comp Sci
21:54:14 sking58: I am wondering if they think there will be more opportunities for follow-up conversations growing out of ISTE to increase the "community" of educators who want to be able to impact "ed reform" in a more positive way (sort of like what Will Richardson tried to do coming out of EduCon)
21:54:42 carl_gaines: Many of my students are required to take so many core courses that electives like Comp Sci hurt.
21:55:23 Adrian: Will the ISTE keynote be streamed for us Aussies?
21:55:35 PeggyG: none of the keynotes are usually streamed
21:55:47 courosa: yes, please, someone stream Lehmann's keynote!
21:55:47 PeggyG: but they are usually recorded and posted after the conference
21:56:10 Susie: The twitter connections are what make the effects of this conference last so much longer  and stronger than any other
21:56:23 PeggyG: wow!!! that is love Chris!!
21:56:41 Susie: And then the opportunities for the webinars, projects, etc that you learn from the PLN that you build'
21:57:29 PeggyG: you can do so much to continue the conversations after ISTE by using the recorded sessions in f2f workshops/sessions back home
21:57:56 Adrian: Nice listening guys. Gotta go watch my lad play soccer at school. cya
21:58:07 PeggyG: most of the smackdowns get streamed by someone
21:58:28 PeggyG: there will be several smackdowns starting with the Smackdown Kung Fu at Edubloggercon
21:58:44 Susie: Like the Far Side cartoon "May I please be excused?  My brain is full"
21:59:18 carl_gaines: Well, I hope we can all 'connect' via twitter during iste
21:59:51 sking58: yes - I agree with what Sylvia is saying; that is what I meant by my ealrier question
21:59:56 courosa: you can still take the free dinner
22:00:08 sking58: having fun is a definite
22:00:08 PeggyG: there are times I have watched a streamed session from Blogger's Cafe just because I couldn't hike the distance in time to get to the session. Ustreamed sessions are often done very spontaneously at the last minute so be sure to follow the Twitter stream #ebc11 and #iste11
22:00:31 carl_gaines: Will do!
22:00:48 Adrian: I heard that... was their beer on board?
22:01:34 SusanEttenheim: hi kern!
22:01:42 Kern: Hey Susan!
22:02:20 SusanEttenheim: kern - did you see my email  - on the gct list?
22:02:36 sking58: Have to check out; early work in the morning. Looking forward to ISTE
22:02:48 SusanEttenheim: night sking58
22:02:56 PeggyG: welcome back Steve!!!
22:03:13 Kern: Yes, saw it today - didn't get a chance to respond yet, doing presentations all week :)
22:03:27 PeggyG: http://edubloggercon.com
22:03:38 SusanEttenheim: do you still have your problem?
22:03:44 PeggyG: http://isteunplugged.com
22:04:12 SusanEttenheim: last comments/thoughts anyone?
22:04:19 PeggyG: can't wait to get there!!!
22:04:29 SusanEttenheim: thanks for all the links as always peggy
22:04:52 Kern: I haven't heard back that there were any more issue, thanks for the note!
22:05:03 PeggyG: I really agree with Steve's point!!!
22:05:07 SusanEttenheim: my issue mysteriously disappeared today
22:05:30 SusanEttenheim: so I'm suspecting a caching issue but it's funny that you saw the exact same problem!
22:05:40 PeggyG: That's great advice Chris--come to learn!!
22:05:57 Kern: yeah, I wonder if it is the cache thing, but it seems weird others had the same problem at the same time
22:06:08 PeggyG: this conversation has just whetted our appetite!! wonderful appetizer!!
22:06:27 SusanEttenheim: night all
22:06:50 PeggyG: good night everyone!
22:06:57 SusanEttenheim: I think tomorrow when I have a small batch of new students I may have them try it
22:07:04 SusanEttenheim: and see if it happens to anyone else
22:07:10 Kern: yeah let me know how it goes
22:07:19 SusanEttenheim: k- you too - let me know!
22:07:20 SusanEttenheim: night
22:07:28 Kern: it was a real bummer it was happening to a bunch of my new accounts with kids
22:07:39 Kern: they were pretty frustrated
22:07:47 SusanEttenheim: I'm worried that I may not know that it's happening with others
22:07:56 Kern: yeah
22:07:57 SusanEttenheim: try again though and see if it "cleared
22:08:03 SusanEttenheim:  and post back?
22:08:07 Kern: good luck :)
22:08:25 SusanEttenheim: I can't believe that if it's happening with you and with me it isn't happening elsewhere too...
22:08:27 SusanEttenheim: you too
