21:20:15 SusanEttenheim: looks like lee has needed to restart - hopefully she will be back with us soon!
21:20:16 Bheald: trying to boost the web 2.0 thing
21:20:22 Dr. Pisano: go2web20.net
21:20:32 elderbob: my site is on Ning as well, http://musicisfree.ning.com
21:21:01 Bheald: Dr. Pisano- I just saw that today, it's a great list of resources
21:21:43 stan: hard to separate junk from good stuff without some elapsed time
21:21:48 Michael.Dodes: WOW
21:22:34 stan: hard to separate junk from good stuff without some elaps
21:23:06 Michael.Dodes: I can paw through that site for months
21:24:01 bmuench: that's why vicki davis says "let your friends be your filter"
21:24:17 Bheald: I 'got booted' out and now I do not see the links posted..is there a place I can see the threads from this session?
21:24:32 Michael.Dodes: yeah, but I like the flea market mentality, go through the junk and celebrate when you find a gem
21:24:33 courosa: hi all
21:24:36 SusanEttenheim: they will be in the show notes but we can repost them now too
21:24:38 lee baber: yikes/// im back

21:25:28 Bheald: Thanks Susan
21:25:31 SusanEttenheim: were those the links you wanted?
21:25:38 SusanEttenheim: there were a few others earlier

21:26:20 Bheald: Yes, I want to share the ning ones...thanks
21:26:33 SusanEttenheim: good
21:26:58 stan: Commodore 64s are mind-blowing. Good choice of words.
21:27:37 lee baber: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/musicbridges/
21:27:59 lee baber: i am resending the links for our course
21:28:03 lee baber: from evo
21:28:19 lee baber: http://musicisfree.ning.com/
21:28:46 James.Sigler: Our first computer lab in high school was a lab of Commodore 64s.
21:28:57 SusanEttenheim: great - thanks lee I missed some of those too!
21:29:16 lee baber: http://imbee.com/ a new social netwrk for youth
21:29:42 Michael.Dodes: I have some students that research guitar tabs online a lot...is there anything you'd recommend for them?
21:29:51 James.Sigler: Have any of you used Imbee?
21:29:52 stan: We had one CMD 64 for a class of kids - we took a bus of select kids to another buillding to go watch adults use the cmputer and tell us what it could do.
21:29:54 Dr. Pisano: Commodore 64...the SID chip blew my Mind... 3 voices at the same time?
21:30:14 Dr. Pisano: The voice ability was awesome!
21:30:25 lee baber: Joe..what is jamie ebersol's link?
21:31:12 stan: 3 generated voices can unfortunately still not do what the human voice or player can do.
21:31:13 Dr. Pisano: http://www.aebersold.com/
21:31:38 Dr. Pisano: I guess I meant 3 part polyphony... the IBM PCs at the time only had Beeps.
21:31:59 stan: I remember. 3 voices was mind-blowing.
21:32:02 Dr. Pisano: I had the very first adlib music card and 1st soundblaster for the PC
21:32:17 Dr. Pisano: In my museum of old pc parts... ha ha
21:32:17 SusanEttenheim: does anyone have any ideas for Michael about guitar resources online for his studnets?
21:32:34 Bheald: paulallison- where are you from?
21:32:45 SusanEttenheim: welcome back gary
21:32:53 James.Sigler: I heard there are Youtube videos to teach guitar
21:32:55 paulallison: I live in nYC.
21:33:05 Dr. Pisano: There are a number of guitar resources available... I just can't pull them up at the moment.
21:33:10 Dr. Pisano: I will post them later...
21:33:21 Bheald: OK, wondered- I know a paulallison from Rochester...not you!
21:33:36 Michael.Dodes: I would appreciate that, I'd like to be able to direct them to some things to teach them to do research on it online without googling tabs all the time.
21:34:01 stan: Teacher education is key.
21:35:06 lee baber: http://www.mustech.net/
21:35:15 stan: Should music teachers be specifically credentialled to teach "technology", "instrumental", "vocal"?
21:35:24 James.Sigler: YouTube guitar lessons
21:35:59 Michael.Dodes: Youtube is blocked with a vengeance in NY :(
21:36:05 James.Sigler: I don't know how to post the link to Youtube lessons
21:36:17 bmuench: stan - no! tech IS a part of education. Music ed too!
21:36:43 lee baber: see the ustream for a pic of the me blogger incentive
21:36:47 bmuench: tech is the toolbox to make music happen with ease
21:36:49 Michael.Dodes: Technology is a means to communicating all sorts of content, and also teaching different skills across the curriculum.
21:36:53 lee baber: http://www.mustech.net/100-me-bloggers/
21:36:53 SusanEttenheim: when someone is training to be a music teacher are they required to take a technology class?
21:37:07 stan: School districts are taking entirely the wrong tack when it comes to content filtering.
21:37:15 Bheald: Technology is the tool for the task
21:37:28 Michael.Dodes: Joyce!
21:37:31 Michael.Dodes: :)
21:37:31 SusanEttenheim: hi joyce welcome
21:37:32 bmuench: i had to take 4 semesters of music tech at u of IL all the way back in the 90's
21:37:45 SusanEttenheim: I'm looking forward to hearing the whole show from last night!
21:38:02 James.Sigler: It was rocking!
21:38:05 SusanEttenheim: wow is that commmon?
21:38:06 joycevalenza: hi all
21:38:16 bmuench: don't know...
21:38:17 Bheald: I agree - filters are based on 1996 thinking....
21:38:25 stan: More like 1984
21:38:55 lee baber: http://www.mustech.net/100-me-bloggers/
21:38:56 bmuench: filters are what the parents think they need.
21:38:59 Bheald: You're right...(Stan)
21:39:06 bmuench: we need to educate them too
21:39:20 stan: Did anyone catch the Schools matters posts on Finnish education? The comments on content filtering were very apropos
21:39:38 Michael.Dodes: It's the same thinking applied to censoring literature, if there's a chance it could be damaging, someone wants to block it, only it's a much more opaque form of censorship because it prevents content from getting in the building in the first place.
21:39:45 lee baber: stan..what is your link?
21:40:07 bmuench: I just emailed you my blog yesterday! :)
21:40:39 Bheald: Saw it referenced on Twitter, but haven't seen it yet...(Finnish ed)
21:40:46 stan: I love how blogger networkers are so *supportive*. It's very nice.
21:41:04 bmuench: bheald what's your twitter? I'd love to add you!
21:41:11 James.Sigler: Filters are needed to block completely inapproptiate sites, but filtering in the US is too much of blocking mania
21:41:14 SusanEttenheim: hi ewolp welcome
21:41:18 Bheald: barbheald- twitter
21:41:20 lee baber: http://gluedtothestring.blogspot.com/
21:41:20 bmuench: i'm bmuench in twitter too
21:41:48 Michael.Dodes: We do tend to throw out the baby with the bathwater is what I'm saying...not that there aren't sites students shouldn't be exposed to.
21:42:21 stan: finnish ed link:
21:42:39 James.Sigler: Just including music in classroom makes the learning experience so much deeper and multilevel
21:43:22 SusanEttenheim: who has questions tonight?
21:43:33 SusanEttenheim: hi ap welcome!
21:45:05 stan: A very good music teacher in my district has her students produce books on tape with themes and sound effects. Works well.
21:45:40 bmuench: http://iodapromonet.com/login.php
21:45:53 bmuench: podsafe music for the net
21:46:03 Michael.Dodes: I wonder about maybe doing cross-cultural music studies...could be interesting research.
21:46:18 stan: Are these streams archived?
21:46:36 lee baber: what is the link again joe?
21:46:49 lee baber: or if anyone know owen bradley's blog link
21:46:51 SusanEttenheim: yes stan at edtechtalk.com
21:46:52 lee baber: yes stan
21:46:56 SusanEttenheim: and teachersteachingteachers.org
21:47:03 stan: Michael - do you mean researching info about c-c music?
21:47:22 Michael.Dodes: Researching, listening, sharing, commenting
21:47:39 Dr. Pisano: digitalmusiceducator.wordpress.com
21:47:44 stan: Sharing sounds right. something like a digital penpal
21:47:56 Bheald: 'battle of the bands' blog? Kids in our disitrict do one every year, but could do it virtually too...hmmm
21:48:12 stan: Livebloggin the battle?
21:48:28 Michael.Dodes: Basically try to bring them out of their "zone" of what they know and expose them to things that they don't listen to or have never heard
21:48:54 stan: I often worry about confidentiality regulations when I consider blogging srudent events
21:48:59 Dr. Pisano: Hi james...
21:49:12 Bheald: I don't know....just know that our kids LOVE battle of the bands- usually it's a benefit of some sort
21:49:55 stan: Who is an instrumental teacher here?
21:50:00 lee baber: http://makemusic.com/
21:50:04 lee baber: I am stan
21:50:22 Bheald: Stu blogging could have expectations as far as names/locations for confidentiallity- could just do internally at first(intranet)- local kids vote on the site
21:50:41 ewolp: I use Smart Music with my clarinet, sax, cello, bass, and viola students
21:50:55 Dr. Pisano: http://www.connectwithmusic.org Integrate Math, English, Science and more..
21:50:56 lee baber: it seems like a wonderful application
21:50:56 Michael.Dodes: I remember learning that one in 3rd grade too
21:50:59 bmuench: 50 Nifty is a tradition at my school
21:51:17 Michael.Dodes: I was NY when we did it in chorus and each of us had to say a state lol
21:51:35 stan: 50 nifty is in my nightmares. No offense.
21:51:51 Dr. Pisano: filetype:ppt
21:52:11 joycevalenza: http://copyrightfriendly.wikispaces.com
21:52:24 lee baber: welcome joyce
21:52:30 joycevalenza: hi lee!
21:52:52 Dr. Pisano: my favorite free image place: www.yotophoto.com
21:53:00 joycevalenza: google's advanced screen rocks!
21:53:01 lee baber: would you like to join us?
21:53:14 joycevalenza: happy being quiet, thanks lee
21:53:27 lee baber: ok..i always like to offer. :)
21:53:37 joycevalenza: i am most grateful!!!
21:54:22 bmuench: i'd love to connect up with another teacher's music classes to collaborate with
21:54:31 Dr. Pisano: Great creative commons search: http://search.creativecommons.org/
21:55:55 Michael.Dodes: I need to go, have a good night everyone, I liked the conversation.
21:56:09 stan: Same here. Great discussion.
21:56:12 SusanEttenheim: night michael thanks for coming!
21:58:26 SusanEttenheim: the equipment is expensive
21:58:56 SusanEttenheim: and then you upgrade the software and the hardware doesn't work
21:59:17 lee baber: http://www.mustech.net/category/music-advocacy/
21:59:23 elderbob: http://www.jamstudio.com/Studio/index.htm
21:59:39 bmuench: and the keyboard to some degree requires knowledge to make it sound like they want it to sound
21:59:47 Bheald: Brenda- found you on Twitter and added you- thanks
22:00:02 Dr. Pisano: http://www.ejamming.com/ Awesome jamming software...
22:00:03 bmuench: found you too bheald you're on my list
22:00:19 lee baber: is it twitter bmuench
22:00:20 lee baber: ?
22:00:36 SusanEttenheim: that's what they use at our school - the paid finale
22:00:58 bmuench: yep i'm bmuench on twitter
22:01:02 ewolp: Finale notepad is pretty good!
22:01:43 bmuench: i'd like to be able to take an mp3 into finale and turn it into music
22:01:50 bmuench: on the free version
22:02:02 bmuench: that's what my kids want it to do
22:02:10 SusanEttenheim: like text to speech!
22:02:16 bmuench: yes exactly
22:02:32 Bheald: that would be cool...text to music
22:03:00 ewolp: I don't think the free version has that capability. I could be wrong, but....
22:03:16 bmuench: i know you play your instrument into finale smart music and it will notate it
22:03:27 Bheald: or do you mean the other way...mp3 into finale and have it print the music...that would be cool
22:03:34 bmuench: but my kids just want to sing their tune and get it notated
22:04:27 ewolp: Smart Music has a vocal component.
22:04:53 bmuench: @ewolp but i've heard it doesn't work nicely and my school won't spend the $
22:05:11 ewolp: The teacher version is $100 - 125. Students can then get it for home at $25
22:05:39 bmuench: my district is 75% free and reduced
22:05:59 Dr. Pisano: Try band in a box.
22:06:27 bmuench: will band in a box turn vocals into notation?
22:06:36 ewolp: I've used it with instrumentalists - especially with scales. The kids really like "seeing" where they are making mistakes and where they are playing correctly.
22:06:39 Dr. Pisano: NO. Try amazing midi it's free and works ok.
22:07:38 lee baber: http://digitalmusiceducator.wordpress.com/
22:08:18 lee baber: this really is a great way to connect music in the classroom of core subjects
22:08:26 lee baber: http://www.connectwithmusic.org/
22:08:41 lee baber: http://www.connectwithmusic.org/
22:08:50 bmuench: amazing midi takes .wav and turns it to .midi Then could I bring the .midi file into notepad and get it notated?
22:10:36 ewolp: I don't think Notepad will turn the midi file into notation. I think you need to pay for that capability. There is a version of Finale called Finale Print Music. It doesn't contain all of the bells and whistles of the full version but it might do what you want.
22:10:54 James.Sigler: Maybe there should be another show on the implications of copyright
22:11:09 Bheald: Kids right now are recording themsleves and saving on myspace- many local kid bands have their own 'space' for sharing their recorded songs
22:11:12 Dr. Pisano: there are a couple of pitch2midi converters... search google for pitch2midi
22:11:32 elderbob: http://www.idiomag.com
22:11:46 Dr. Pisano: once something is in midi it can be viewed as notation.
22:12:44 bmuench: @dr. pisano - thanks! i'll try it soon!
22:13:34 Bheald: thank you- bye.... :)
22:13:42 lee baber: night.thanks
22:13:47 bmuench: singing off lol!
22:13:47 lee baber: thank you susan
22:13:54 lee baber: night bmuench
22:13:56 lee baber: thanks
22:14:12 lee baber: thank you worldbridges
22:14:17 lee baber: and Dr. Pisano
22:14:27 Dr. Pisano: Thank you all so much! Hope to see you at our site!
22:15:11 James.Sigler: Great Show!

Hello! I am a student and I am doing a task for the university. I would like to know how often should I test in general my primary students in the Engñish subject and why. Could you answer to me as soon as possible?
