Ed Tech Talk Newsletter Week of October 25 - 31, 2008
Hello EdTechTalkers:
Welcome to the this week's edition of the EdTechTalk (ETT) Weekly Newsletter!
As we prepare, in parts of the United States, to turn our clocks back, we watched the K12Online Conference wind down with When Night Falls. We were lucky to have some of our very own ETT webcasters and regular listeners take part in this exciting round-the-clock wrap up of the conference. Jen Wagner, Dave Chamberlain, Susan van Gelder, Kim Caise, Vinnie Vrotney, Dennis Richards, and Linda Nitsche all volunteered to lead discussions. If you didn't get a chance to watch all the presentations or join the live sessions, you can still listen in on the archives. http://k12onlineconference.org/docs/k12online2008schedule.html

Sometimes it takes a converation like this one to let you know that we need to share our successes and trials with our bigger network. We all have good ideas, good solutions and when we talk together we offer better solutions for problems that we are all experiencing. I hope you find the nuggets in this conversation. Seedlings.

This week our guests were Kathy Cassidy from Moose Jaw SK , a grade 1 teacher, Leah Welch from Hamden Maine, a grade 1 teacher and formerly a kindergarten teacher, and Amanda Marrinan from Brisbane Australia who teaches 6 and 7 year olds. These teachers do amazing things with their students - blogging, video, moodle, google docs, and more. Kathy, Leah and Amanda shared their practice and talked about the details in how they make things work. The time flew as we all listened to the stories of their work with young children.

Many opinions were expressed about the purpose and reasons for giving homework. We looked at this topic from a teacher's and as well as a parent's point of view. The chat room was rockin' so don't forget to check out the chat log from today's show.
