Hello EdTechTalkers:

Welcome to this week's edition of the EdTechTalk (ETT) Weekly
Newsletter! History was made this week with the inauguration of
President Obama and several ETT shows featured discussions related to
inaugural events and educational issues facing Congress and the current
legislators. Many ETT shows this week referenced current issues facing
educators and parents around the world. ETT's Teachers Teaching
Teachers show hosts interviewed high school students as they discussed
the application process to higher education. Recruiting and retaining
students at higher ed institutions coupled with making tuition
affordable and surviving government funding/budget cuts are daunting
tasks facing educators and students alike. In President Obama's
inaugural address, many references were made to the future of education
and were the topic of discussion in blogs written by ETT show
hosts and participants throughout the world.

When parents asked Kathy about how she protected her students identity she shared her advice and best practices. You will really enjoy the practical hands on solutions used by Kathy.

Maria Knee and Lisa Parisi welcomed Sheila Adams as an official host of the show. This week the conversation centered around Personal Learning Networks both face to face and online.

Teachers Teaching Teachers #134 - Google us, Please! Four Young Bloggers Apply to College 01.07.09
Senior in high school, Linda put out a call for other bloggers to talk about their experiences with applying to college. We put Linda in touch with Lindsea, who blogs at Love & Logic and at Students 2.0,
as she is also a senior at Panahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii. We invited Linda and Lindsea onto Teachers Teaching Teachers to tell us about their journies into the college admissions process.
We also invited two seniors who have been working with Chris Sloan at Judge Memorial Catholic High School: Alli (who blogs at Fibers) and Katie (whose post, "YES WE CAN: my experience in Grant Park on election day," drew a lot of interest on Youth Voices in November).

EdTechTalk is a community of people interested in the use of technology to improve
teaching and learning at all levels of education throughout the world.
As a Worldbridges community, it embraces the values of collaboration
and inclusiveness. The primary activity of the community is the
production of a number of live, interactive webcasts. These programs
cover a wide range of topics relating to educational technology. Shows
are typically streamed live, and listeners can interact with one
another and the show hosts through a text chat. Recordings of the shows
are released as podcasts. Participation in the community is encouraged
for anyone who has an interest in educational technology. Participation
may take many forms, from simply listening to shows produced by the
community to more actively working to produce and distribute content
for the network.
