Welcome to this week's edition of the EdTechTalk (ETT) Weekly Newsletter! Hope everyone had a wonderful Earth Day this past week! Schools around the world held special events and learning activities to commemorate Earth day. EdTechTalk was among those celebrating Earth Day with a 24-hour EarthCast09  featuring speakers talking about ways to recycle, focused on aspects of global warming, organic farming and a host of other topics related to preserving and conserving the earth's resources. EarthCast09 was kicked off with an inspiring keynote by Jason Czarnezki entitled "Everyday Environmentalism". The recording can be found here if you missed the live event. Be sure to visit the EarthCast09 website to listen to the recordings of  of the 24 hour webcastathon at http://www.earthbridges.net/.

A Google map was created to show the locations of the many listeners around the world. Many schools participated in Earthcast09 and a Google map of broadcasters can be found here. This screenshot was taken during the Earthcast09 featuring a main chat window with Matt Montagne's students hosting 'Gator Radio'. One of Matt's high school students was interviewing two elementary students who asked that instead of giving them presents for their birthdays donations be made to various charities on their behalf.

The girls are working on a website and listed the address should you wish to contact them to be notified when the website is live at http://earthsaversclubforkids.com/.

A Week in Review

Conversations #33 2009 04 19

Our topic for Conversations this week was EarthCast09 which led to a discussion about broadcasting live with students. Sheila shared her experiences in broadcasting with her 7th grade students during EarthCast08. Matt Montagne joined us near the end of the hour to talk more about Earthbridges and EarthCast09 and his students' work with Gator Radio. EdTechTalk is a community of people interested in the use of technology to improve teaching and learning at all levels of education throughout the world. As a Worldbridges community, it embraces the values of collaboration and inclusiveness. The primary activity of the community is the production of a number of live, interactive webcasts.
